What to expect from your newborn session

How to prepare for your session?

• Please try to keep your baby awake for an hour or two before the session. I know this is a lot to ask on top of your own sleep deprivation, but it is important that your baby stay sleepy during the session. Try giving them a bath, tickling their toes, or keeping them undressed. They will get to sleep for a good few hours afterwards!

• After a few hours, dress baby in either button or zip-up outfit that you are happy for them to be photographed in. I don’t want to have to pull anything over their head and make them fussy when we undress them for some of the photos.

• After baby is all dressed, its time to eat! Allow plenty of time for your baby to feed so that baby is nice and full.

• Get them in their car seat and let them sleep on the way over• When you arrive, if possible please bring in baby inside in their carseat.

What happens at my session?

• Sessions last around 1-2 hours, sometimes more and sometimes less. This all depends on your baby and how settled they are.

• Your baby will be naked for some of the photographs, but we always keep nappies on to make sure there are not accidents. We have little pants we can use to cover their nappy.

• Please remember that your baby is only a few weeks old. Baby will be able to sense any stress in the room, so remember to stay calm and relaxed.

• I have no expectations around your baby being asleep, our sessions are always lead by your baby. So if they sleep or if they are awake doesn’t matter. We just want your baby to be happy & settled.

• To ensure your baby is as settled as possible for your session the most important thing is to make sure they have as big a feed as possible before you leave home.

What do we bring?

• Nappies

• Wipes

• Bottle & formula if bottle feeding or comp feeding

• If you have one, PLEASE bring a dummy

• Please only bring those who are to be photographed to the studio. Also, cameras and other recording devices are not permitted.

What do we wear?

• We recommend that mum chooses her outfit first & then let everyone else in the family can coordinate around you. It’s really important that you love your outfit! Pick something that you feel beautiful in & that’s comfortable. Pick something that you wear day to day that you love.

• Try to avoid logos on clothes. Small logos on pockets are fine. We mean the big logos that run right across the front of a shirt.

• When selecting clothes for the family, think as if you were creating one outfit. If all your choices were somehow on one person, would the result be pleasing?

• arrange your outfits a few days before your session, so you are not rushed at the last minute.

• we recommend bare feet for sessions, so you don’t need to worry about shoes
